The National Rifle Association’s chief executive says he hopes the lawsuit will “send a message to those who attack the NRA”. The National Rifle Association (NRA) has sued San Francisco in response to the Californian city recently designating the group a terrorist organisation. The lawsuit, which was filed on Monday, accuses city officials of trying to blacklist anyone working with the gun rights lobby, and alleges the group’s free speech rights have been violated. It calls for action against the officials to show that “freedom of speech means you cannot silence or punish those with whom you disagree”. (…) San Francisco put forward the declaration in response to a recent deadly shooting in Gilroy, California, about 80 miles (129 kilometres) southeast of the city. A gunman opened fire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, killing three people and injuring 17, before taking his own life. There have been several mass shootings in the US since the Gilroy attack at the end of July, including in El Paso, Texas, Dayton, Ohio.
