If that is discovered “all efforts would be made to return it to the rightful owners or their heirs,” the statement says. According to the article, “Eckhardt’s public endorsements of Nazism include signing an oath of allegiance to Hitler and producing several polemics in far-right and Nazified journals in the early 1930s, urging, among other things, that Germany’s cultural arena align itself with the goals of the Nazi state.” Sweatman also noted “Eckhardt went to work for one of the most notorious players in Hitler’s war machine, IG Farben, the same company that built the Auschwitz concentration camp and manufactured Zyklon B, used in the gas chambers.”

Nicht nur psychische Erkrankungen, auch Bluthochdruck und Übergewicht können Folgen rassistischer Diskriminierung sein. Meryam Schouler-Ocak kennt sie selbst, diese Blicke. “Neulich in der Bahn saß ich zwei älteren Damen gegenüber, die mich die ganze Zeit von oben bis unten gemustert und angestarrt haben.” Zuerst dachte Schouler-Ocak, sie habe irgendwo einen Fleck, einen offenen Knopf oder so etwas. Doch da war nichts. Sie ist lediglich dunkelhaarig, und sie ist türkischstämmig. “Mikroaggressionen” nennt Schouler-Ocak solche Formen der rassistischen Diskriminierung. “Viele Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund, dunkler Haut- oder Haarfarbe erleben sie fast täglich”, weiß die Professorin für interkulturelle Psychiatrie und Fachärztin für Psychiatrie, Psychotherapie und Neurologie der Universitätsklinik der Charité im St. Hedwig-Krankenhaus in Berlin. Abschätzige Blicke, dumme Sprüche oder Sticheleien – rassistische Diskriminierungen dieser Art akkumulieren sich und können krank machen. “Das kann sich bis hin zum posttraumatischen Belastungssyndrom und anderen psychiatrischen Erkrankungen entwickeln”, sagt Schouler-Ocak. Depressionen und Angststörung durch Rassismus Wie jede Form der Diskriminierung – ob Sexismus oder Antisemitismus – zielt auch Rassismus darauf ab, zu verletzen. Im Fall von Rassismus werden Menschen aufgrund ihrer Herkunft, Hautfarbe oder anderer genereller Zuschreibungen abgewertet und ausgegrenzt. Das erleben Betroffene nicht nur im zwischenmenschlichen Kontakt durch geringschätziges oder aggressives Verhalten anderer. Sogenannter struktureller und institutionalisierter Rassismus benachteiligen Menschen beispielsweise bei der Wohnungssuche oder auf dem Arbeitsmarkt. Wer dunkle Haut habe, ein Kopftuch oder einen fremdklingenden Namen trage, dessen Karten stünden schlechter, so Schouler-Ocak. Wie entsteht ein Trauma? 04:05 Ständig erlebte Verletzungen bleiben für die Betroffenen nicht ohne Folgen: “Rassistische Diskriminierung hat einen signifikanten Effekt auf die Gesundheit”, sagt Meryam Schouler-Ocak. Menschen, die diese Art von Diskriminierung erleben, würden doppelt so häufig an psychiatrischen Erkrankungen leiden wie die Menschen ohne diese Erfahrungen. Angststörungen, Depressionen, posttraumatische Belastungsstörung, Suchterkrankungen oder Psychosen – das Risiko für solche Erkrankungen steigt. Das liege daran, dass rassistische Diskriminierungen die Gehirnaktivität beeinflusse, sagt Schouler-Ocak. “Es kommt zu Dysregulationen in bestimmten Hirnarealen, so wie bei psychiatrischen Erkrankungen auch.” Hohes Gesundheitsrisiko in Sammelunterkünften Ein besonders großes Risiko haben Menschen, die beispielsweise nach der Flucht aus ihrer Heimat in Sammelunterkünften landen, so die Psychiaterin, die u.a. zu interkultureller Migrationsversorgung forscht. Zum Trauma der Flucht und der Trennung von Freunden und Familie kommen weitere Stressfaktoren: keine Beschäftigung, keine Privatsphäre und diskriminierende Erfahrungen. “Solche Erlebnisse, die auf eine Flucht folgen, haben einen kumulativen Effekt”, sagt Schouler-Ocak. Je mehr, desto schlimmer.
