Missoula judge issues warrant for arrest of neo-Nazi publisher Andrew Anglin

A U.S. District Court judge issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for a neo-Nazi publisher earlier ordered to pay $14 million after he unleashed an anti-Semitic “troll storm” against a Whitefish woman and her family. A September court order said Andrew Anglin had 30 days to comply with requests for documents showing his whereabouts and income and assets, among other things. Failure to do so would result in a bench warrant. First reported by the Associated Press, the Nov. 9 warrant signed by Judge Dana Christensen commands the U.S. Marshal “and any authorized United States Officer” to arrest Anglin and bring him to court in Missoula as soon as possible. Lawyer John Morrison, who represents plaintiff Tanya Gersh of Whitefish, said Wednesday his client expects Anglin to be taken into custody. “Andrew Anglin has evaded the court’s jurisdiction and ignored the court’s orders for months and years, and it became necessary for the court to issue a warrant for his arrest,” Morrison said. “And we intend to see that that warrant is executed and enforced to the full extent of the law.”

Neo-Nazi #Trump supporter accused of skipping out on $14 million debt: report – #AndrewAnglin #dailystormer #splc

Notorious neo-Nazi Andrew Anglin was taken to court again Friday for allegedly ignoring a multi-million legal judgement. “A Montana real estate agent who secured a $14 million judgment against a neo-Nazi website publisher for orchestrating an anti-Semitic harassment campaign against her Jewish family is seeking a court order compelling the man to disclose information about his assets and finances,” the AP reported Friday. “Tanya Gersh’s attorneys said in a court filing Friday that Andrew Anglin, founder and operator of The Daily Stormer, hasn’t paid any portion of the August 2019 judgment and has ignored their requests for information about his whereabouts, his operation of the website and other assets.” In February, Anglin announced laying off writers at The Daily Stormer after his supporters failed to donate enough money. “U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen in Missoula, Montana, ordered Anglin to pay over $4 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages to Gersh, who is represented by lawyers from the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center.

siehe auch: Andrew Anglin. Andrew Anglin is the founder of the neo-Nazi Daily Stormer website, which aptly takes its name from the gutter Nazi propaganda sheet known as Der Stürmer. True to that vintage, Anglin is infamous for the crudity of his language and his thinking, a contrast to his sophistication as a prolific Internet troll and serial harasser.

In response to an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) report highlighting rising antisemitic and white supremacist content on X – formerly known as Twitter – the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, tweeted that he was considering legal action against the organization. Claiming that the report was “falsely accusing [X] & [Musk] of being anti-Semitic,” Musk argued in his Tweets that the platform’s falling advertising revenue was the result of ADL pressure. In the wake of Musk’s Tweets, the hashtag #BanTheADL trended on the platform, and antisemitic users took the opportunity to spread hate on X and across other social media outlets. Neo-Nazis and white supremacists celebrated Musk’s statements and spread misinformation about the founding of the ADL. Neo-Nazi accounts also took the opportunity to target senior figures within the ADL, specifically its CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt. Personally identifying information about Greenblatt was posted across a number of violent neo-Nazi spaces online. Since Musk took ownership of the platform in December 2022, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other extremists including Jihadis have flocked back to Twitter, hoping to find a new audience for their propaganda. Prominent figures such as former Daily Stormer editor Andrew Anglin, neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes (under a pseudonymous account), white supremacist Keith Woods, and groups like the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement have returned to Twitter and gained significant followings. These extremists have viewed Musk’s promise of a censorship-free “Digital Town Square” as an opportunity to regain a foothold in the more mainstream online space, and instances of extremist content on the platform have been on the rise since the beginning of 2023. MEMRI has reported extensively on extremist content on Twitter since Musk’s takeover.[1]

#Twitter stellt Konto eines bekannten US-Neonazis wieder her, #Hass boomt – #SafeHavenForNazis #hatspeech #musk #hatemonger

Spotify hosts white supremacist music, according to report by civil rights group

Some of these white supremacist artists were verified and being recommended by Spotify. Unsuspecting techno fans searching Spotify for new music may come across an unwelcome surprise: A speech from Adolf Hitler. A new report from the civil rights group Anti-Defamation League (ADL) uncovers dozens of white supremacist and neo-nazi bands distributing their music on the popular streaming platform Spotify. According to the report by the ADL Center on Extremism, Spotify has “declined” to take action on this content. The ADL warned Spotify that its platform’s policies were inadequate and many of its rules were “loosely defined” back in February of this year. While the music streaming giant did update its rules after the ADL’s report, the civil rights group says “they do not appear to be strictly enforced.” On top of the apparent problem with lackadaisical enforcement, users who want to report prohibited content can only do so on the platform’s desktop app according to the ADL. This is almost certainly a roadblock to enforcing these policies as the vast majority of Spotify’s user base listens via the company’s mobile apps. The ADL uncovered 40 white supremacist artists on the Spotify platform. However, as ADL investigative researcher Calum Farley told the Washington Post, “there’s likely much more.” The artists ran the gamut of popularity with some being followed by thousands of the platform’s users. Some of the artists’ accounts were even verified by Spotify.

siehe auch: White Supremacist Musicians Reaching Audiences on Spotify: New ADL Report. White supremacists are reaching new audiences through music streaming platforms, the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism reported on Thursday. According to the civil rights group, forty white supremacist bands are featured on Spotify, an audio media provider with an estimated 182 million subscribers and 433 million monthly users. Some have become “verified artists,” a privilege that is not difficult to obtain and which, one music label owned by Sony Music Entertainment has said, can “help you in growing a sizable following.” (…) ADL identified several genres and sub-genre’s of white supremacist hate-pop, including “Fashwave,” a play on the word fascism. It is, the ADL continued, a personal favorite of neo-Nazi Andrew Anglin, founder of The Daily Stormer website. Fashwave has roots in Vaporwave, a style of music that patches together various synthesizer and drum-machine-driven sounds of the 1980s and 90s with images from the era’s most popular symbols of mass culture. Vaporwave’s evocation of nostalgia for an idealized past appealed to white racists, who appropriated its sonic and visual aesthetic to express their frustrations with cultural diversity, gender equality, and social change. It has also splintered to form a Marxist sub-genre. Spotify users can stream songs by one of fashwave’s most known artists, IronMensch, including “Aryan Fury,” as well as “Veltanschaung,” a title based on the German noun Weltanschauung, which means “worldview.” The ADL also identified genres such as “Rock Against Communism” (RAC) and “National Socialist Black Metal” (NSBM). One RAC band from Spain, Pugilato NSHC (National Socialist Hardcore) wrote a song titled “Sacrifice and Discipline” which pays tribute to Otto Skorzeny, a Waffen-SS colonel.

Siehe auch report: White Supremacist Music Prevalent on Spotify, While Platform Largely Declines to Act. The ADL Center on Extremism (COE) has identified 40 white supremacist artists with a presence on Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform. Music has long been an effective way to radicalize extremists, allowing artists to both entertain and indoctrinate vulnerable listeners. At a time of increasing hate-motivated extremist violence, Spotify is not only allowing the racism and incitement of white supremacist music, it is actively promoting that content on its own playlists. In February 2022, the ADL Center on Technology and Society (CTS) published a report analyzing the Spotify platform rules. The report found these rules to be loosely defined and they did not live up to Spotify’s responsibility as a streaming platform. Although Spotify updated their rules following the CTS report, adding a much more explicit anti-extremism policy, they do not appear to be strictly enforced. Users who want to proactively report problematic content are only able to do so on the Spotify desktop app and not on the mobile app, which constitutes a roadblock to flagging problematic content. This report seeks to show some of the white supremacist content that remained on the platform as of September 21, 2022.
